Elliot Michael Chapman was born on May 18, 1998. At 36 weeks on a routine prenatal visit it was discovered that I had placenta previa and a baby in distress. An emergency c-section was performed and after resusitation, our son was wisked away to neonatal. The first couple days, tests were done ruling out everything they could think of. When he was two days old the terrible news came. I can remember the doctor's exact words, "It's not good, Dandy Walker and other brain malformations, he may never see, hear, talk, walk and will probably be very learning disabled." Those first days we looked for everything we could find about Dandy Walker. Then we began to learn of his other diagnoses: agenesis of the corpus callosum, optic nerve hypoplasia, severe hearing loss, hydrocephalus, brain dysplasia. So far all of his endocrine tests have been normal. He has not required a shunt either and we are very thankful for this.

At 8 months he is not sitting or rolling and has little head control due to very low muscle tone. His hearing has improved with tubes and hearing aids. He reacts to light but doesn't track. He has the sweetest disposition and even sweeter smile. He has brought us so much joy and we feel very blessed to have him for a son.
