| This is
Ashley Ricks. She was born on October 18, 1993, weighing 7 lbs. 14 ozs.
and being 21 inches long. Right from the start Ashley was seeing a specialist,
but not the kind you would imagine. Ashley was born with both knees dislocated
and required full leg casts before we could take her home. We had no idea
what was to come. Thankfully, Ashley only had to wear the casts for only
one month and her knees appear to be fine now.
Although we noticed her left eye turning in fairly early in her life, we were told that it would be fine because all babies eyes tend to react this way. At the age of 4 we were told that our beautiful little girl would probably never see out of her left eye. She has severe hypoplasia in her left eye, but the good news was that her right eye was 20/20 and so long as she kept it protected she was in little danger of losing her sight totally. Just like most parents, we wanted to give Ashley the opportunity to do anything and be anything she wants and in one fell swoop our whole world turned upside down. But look at her now!!!! Ashley loves to run and play soccer and t-ball and she is now wanting to play basketball and be a cheerleader. She has her daddy's sense of humor and his wonderful smile. She is, without a doubt, "Daddy's little girl". We realize the road ahead of us may be packed with hidden obstacles and trials, but no matter what Ashley will always be our light at the end of the road. |
