My name is Jenny my daughter Cheryl was born on 3-28-93. she was an apnea baby, diagnoised at two weeks old when she had to be resucitated because she quit breathing for over 3 mins. She was jaundiced at birth and even after being under the lights for a week she became jaundiced again soon after being released, of course she was back in intensive care for a few weeks for the apnea, and again several weeks later for dehydration and projectile vomiting which they found out was caused by GI reflux. she surprised the nurses in intensive care because she rolled over when she was only 18 days old. Cheryl was diagnosised with optic nerve hypoplasia when she was 6 months old, as well as retinopathy prematurity and under developed foveas, she also had nystagmus and strabimus, i knew she was not seeing before that time infact i knew by the time she was two months old but it took awhile for the diagnosis. cheryl was constantly sick the first year she was alive, if she was not put on antibiotics immediately she would run extremely high temperatures, at age 9 months she was put on cortisol and diagnosised cortisol deficient. she also started schooling at this time and managed to get rid of her first teacher by either screaming nonstop or going to sleep as soon as she showed up, they called her spunky in her eval.By age two she was on growth hormone as well as synthroid and diagnosised pan hypopituitarism, septo optic displasia sequence, as well as totally blind. the diabetes insipidus followed as well as the diagnosis of autism.

Today cheryl is 5 years old and very happy most of the time, she loves to sing and anything musical. she does have a speech comunication problem but is almost caught up in her language skills. she walks with her cane independantly, loves the water and swings. she has a bike she rides although i steer for her.

She is also very very stubborn and good at getting out of things she doesn't want to do, that is where the spunky comes in. but she has a great memory and never forgets anything.

Cheryl takes cortef ,synthroid, ddavp, growth hormone, melatonin and a multivitamin per day also solu cortef in emergencies. she still gets sick alot and seems to catch almost everything she is exposed to, but she is a very lively active girl the rest of the time.
